Avril Knott-Craig has a degree in Psychology and Drama and a specialist teaching degree in Drama-in-Education (University of Cape Town). She started her career as a high school teacher and subsequently taught students from pre-school to tertiary level. She spent 12 years in teacher training and had a brief foray into the private sector before joining the NPO sector. Knott-Craig introduced a positive discipline component to the undergraduate teaching course at Cape Peninsula University of Technology in 2004 and in 2015 wrote a manual on positive discipline for South African schools .
