Almarie du Preez is a Radio Presenter, Singer/Songwriter, Pianist, Actress, Registered Music Therapist and former TV Presenter.
She holds an Honours degree in Psychology (1995-1999) and a Masters Degree in Music Therapy (2006-2007) obtained from the University of Pretoria. She has six years corporate experience working at Absa Bank Head Office as a Human Resources Consultant and Psychometrist. As a Music Therapist she has worked in numerous settings such as Rehabilitation Facilities, Hospitals and Old Age Homes.
As a Singer/Songwriter she recorded her first Afrikaans solo album with SAMA and Ghoema award-winning producer Fred den Hartog from the group Heuwels Fantasties & producer and musician Johnny de Ridder from the group FOKOFPOLISIEKAR. Her album follows her Afrikaans singles, Jy vir My & Hemeldans. She is well known for her collaboration and performances with Bouwer Bosch from the band Straatligkinders. She was the lead singer for the rock band Friday & The Hype with whom she recorded a full-length album. From 2001-2016 Almarie was a worship leader at Moreleta Park Church in Pretoria. Over time she performed regularly at weddings and corporate events. Almarie has shared the stage with various artists including Bouwer Bosch, Nadine Blom, Robbie Wessels, Stella, Melissa Bam, Christiaan Kritzinger and Deon Meiring. Formal music training includes a Grade 8 in Piano obtained through UNISA.
As an actress, Almarie starred in a few episodes of the soap GENERATIONS (2011) & BINNELANDERS (2012). In 2016 she played the lead in her first feature film THE ROAR, co-starring Heinz Winckler, released in March 2018.
In 2015 she became a field presenter for the kykNET TV program JAM and was the Anchor presenter from 2016-2017. During this period she interviewed over 300 South African music artists and also had the opportunity to co-host the live broadcasted TV program JUKEBOX with Jak de Priester.
In 2016 she wrote music reviews for the monthly edition of FINESSE magazine. She is often included as one of the writers for inspiring books including: ‘n Nuwe Dag (2017) & Nou is die Tyd (2018).
In 2017 her dream to relocate to Cape Town finally became a reality when she joined the Bok Radio team as a radio presenter until February 2020. In April 2020 a new season as presenter for Radio Tygerberg 104FM began where she now presents the BRUNCH programme weekdays 9m-12pm. Previously she worked as a Radio Pulpit presenter (2013-2017) where she conducted numerous interviews with musicians, sports personalities and actors for her weekly show. She has a passion for encouraging others and regularly acts as MC and speaker at schools, churches and women’s events/ conferences.
