Thoko has more than 40 yrs experience in television, film and stage work. 'Cincinatti, born in the RSA, Curl up and Dye and Mies Julie are some of the world renowned plays she has acted in. She also has vast experience in the film industry acting alongside Halle Berry in Dark Tide,Donald Sutherland and Susan Sarandon in A Dry White Season and many more. Thoko became a household name when she starred as Joyce in the popular comedy series Velaphi and Donna in the first South African tele-serial Egoli. In 2012, she won the Fleur de Cap best supporting actress Award for her role as Christine in Mies Julie, the production that brought home almost all the Awards at the Edinburgh festival in 2013.

Thoko has recently retired from her position as the Director of Inclusive Arts Unit and Advisor to the CEO at artscape Theatre Centre. Her position entailed facilitating and coordinating the use of Artscape's facility to the best of its capacity and to the benefit of the broader Community of the Western Cape.
Thoko is involved in the upliftment of the Rural Community of Bersheba/Enon, Kirkwood. Her company, Bavuse Balele (PTY)LTD creates an environment that is supportive and sensitive to the changing needs of the community at large.
