Michelle Douglas completed her Drama studies at the Pretoria Technikon, after which she worked extensively in N.E.T.S. Children’s Theatre as well as some local soapies. Thereafter she joined an English Theatre company in Rome, Italy, and played the Lead in various shows at Il Teatro Colosseo under the direction of Gaby Ford and Paul Martignetti. Upon furthering her studies in Voice and Movement Therapy under Paul Newham (UK), she moved on to the UK where she worked mainly in children’s theatre. Upon her return to South Africa 11 years ago, she played the lead in Mike van Graan’s “Green Man Flashing” under the direction of Clare Stopford. She went on to direct community theatre in the townships of Grabouw, Western Cape, and toured with the group to the National Arts Festival and Milan, Italy. Besides extensive acting and puppetry work for Arepp Theatre for Life, she has acted in many different South African TV dramas including Home Affairs, Soul City, Generations and Saints and Sinners, as well as in local and international film, the most recent being a female lead in FC Hamman’s Ordinary People, as well as dipping her toe into the world of Motion Capture Animation in Flying Circus’ pilot production of Inside Job, under the direction of Daniel Buckland. After receiving advanced coaching from Steven Feinstein, Michelle had the privilege of being directed by him in Edward Mamet’s Boston Marriage. Michelle spends much of her time directing and performing in Corporate and Industrial Theatre, working as a voiceover artist and pursuing her first love: Theatre.
