AJ van der Merwe made his professional debut in the mid 1980’s, and has been involved in about 60 different films, TV series’, commercials and corporate videos. He was also involved in more than 130 theatrical productions as actor, singer, director, writer and producer.
Awards and nominations include two Fleur du Cap nominations, two Artes nominations, two Vita nominations and two Kanna awards – the official awards of the Klein Karoo National Arts Festival.
He is an accomplished voice over artist, and was the corporate voice for brands like Standard Bank, Spur, Sanlam, Engen and Checkers at various times in his career. He has voiced various lifestyle programs for television, amongst others, Kwela, Ontbytsake and Pasella. He gained extensive experience as both producer and director for radio and television commercials since 2011 in his capacity as in-house audio-visual producer for Capitec.
